Freedom has provided a forum for views on religious freedom by a variety of civil and human rights leaders, members of the clergy and the media. Among them: the late Dr. Leo Pfefferauthor, attorney and educator who worked for five decades at the forefront of efforts to maintain religious liberty; Clarence Pendleton Jr., former chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights; the late Dean Kelley, who served prominently for several decades as a leader on religious liberty issues in the National Council of Churches; Barry Fisher, longtime chair of the religious liberty committee of the American Bar Association; and the leaders of a variety of denominations and congregations.
In commemoration of Freedoms 30th anniversary, the following 1976 article by William Willoughbythen Religion News Editor of the Washington Star is reprinted in full due to its particularly timeless message.
