Halting the Spread of Bio-Warfare Weapons
Freedom and the Church of Scientology have been at the vanguard of efforts since the late 1970s to uncover the truth about experimentation or indiscriminate use of chemical and biological agents on unwitting segments of the population, including servicemen. Freedom has consistently spoken out on the issue and has provided a forum for others to do the same. A representative example was Freedoms exclusive interview with Norman Cousins, excerpted here.
Norman Cousins was best known as the editor of the Saturday Review, a position he held for 35 years. At the time of Freedoms interview in 1980, Mr. Cousins had recently joined the faculty of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical School as an adjunct professor. A longtime opponent of nuclear arms, he also took a strong stand against chemical-biological warfare weapons.
